ForHLR consists of two parallel computing systems, i.e. Phase I and II. The ForHLR system is the replacement of the "Landeshöchstleistungsrechner HP XC4000” system and fills the gap between extremely parallel tier 1 applications and weakly parallelized codes at tier 3. Computing projects to be approved by the HLRS “Lenkungsausschuss” (steering committee) will aim at solving complex problems at a new order of scale in fields such as environmental sciences, energy research, nanotechnology and material sciences.
