The usage of bwForCluster is free of charge, but your computations must fit to the research focus of a bwForCluster, since they are financed via a grant-proposal by the DFG (German Research Foundation) and by the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts of Baden-Württemberg.

Granting user access for a bwForCluster requires 3 steps:

  1. Registration of your "Rechenvorhaben" (German for "compute project") at the "Zentrale Antragsseite (ZAS)"
  2. Application for bwForCluster entitlement issued by your university
  3. Registration at assigned cluster site based on approved compute project and issued bwForCluster entitlement

Step 1 and 2 are pre-steps and requirements of step 3. Moreover, steps 1 and 2 can be done in parallel. At which cluster site you can do step 3 will be decided based on your registration from in step 1, i.e. at the ZAS.

1 ZAS: Registration of compute project

A compute project is characterized by the research objective as well as the used methods and software packages.
